This is part 1 of the 2016 DIY Home Automation Guide. This is a full tutorial for modern home automation using smart hubs, Z-Wave & Zigbee Devices and, and other home automation tools. This guide uses the Samsung SmartThings hub with the New Echo Dot but other hubs such as the Wink Hub, Insteon, Hue, and PIper, are discussed.
Javion LED Projector Review
So how good could a home theater projector that costs under $200 be? This is a review of the Javion LED Video Projector. This is a standard definition (480P) projector. The packaging claims 3200 lumens but it appears to have more like 800 or less. For the price, it works well as a small, portable projector.
Echo Dot (2nd Generation) Review
A quick review of Amazon's new Echo Dot 2 (2nd Generation) with a comparison to the Amazon Echo and some home automation. I have the Echo and Echo Dot working with Samsung SmartThings and Nest Thermostat. I also compare the Echo Dot 2nd Gen to the Echo. The New Echo Dot works very well for playing music since it has an aux port. If you ask Alexa to play music, by default it will play from Amazon Prime Music but it also works with Spotify, Tune-in and a few other music services.
Note 7 Rant & Replacement Advice
This is just a quick rant about the Note 7 issues and some advice on which phones to replace your Note 7 with. My first recommendation is the Galaxy S7 Edge. It's nearly the same size as the Note 7, has the same camera, and a lot of the same features. The LG V20 is also nice as well as the Google Pixel. However, the Google Pixel is all theoretical since it hasn't been officially released yet.
